I Love Star Mill!

This morning, I met up with some of my friends at Star Mill in American Fork. What a fun location -- a photographer's dream. It's an old flour mill turned antique store. The grounds are huge with all kinds of stuff everywhere...from old chairs to bikes to rusty wagons to a broken-down bus.

We had a great time taking pictures and wandering all over the place. It was tons-o-fun. I had a little scare towards the end, though, when I got a call from the elementary school informing me that Mallory had been injured at recess -- another kid rammed into her during a basketball game and knocked her permanent front tooth loose. Apparently there was blood all over, she was traumatized, the tooth was still in her mouth, but kind of dangling. As it turns out, the school called the wrong mom! There are two Mallory Evans' at our school -- ours and one who is in 3rd grade. Holy moley!

When the school called, I told them I was 45 minutes away, but would be there as fast as I could. Then I called Jan (my sister) to see if you could go get Mallory for me. Then I called our dentist to see if we could get her in right away. Well, it turns out our dentist is closed on Fridays, and no one answered the emergency number. (Note to self: Don't have a dental emergency on Fridays).
Anywhooooo..Then I decided to call the school because I was certain Mallory was extremely upset. I asked to talk to her and she came to the phone very upset. I could hardly understand her. I told her, "I'm taking pictures in American Fork, but I'll be home in 45 minutes. I'm on my way right now. Jan is coming to get you." To this she replied, "Who?" I said, "Jan, your aunt." She said, "I don't know her." I said, "Mallory, of course you do. Your aunt...my sister...Jan." Then she said, "I don't know her." At this point, I'm beginning to panic thinking that not only has Mallory's tooth been knocked loose, she also has amnesia or something. I tell her, "Someone needs to take you to the hospital right away if you can't remember things." She tells me to hold on, and then gives the phone to the office lady, who comes on and says, "Are you the mom of Mallory Evans who is in 3rd grade?" I say, "NO! My daughter is in 6th grade."

Of course, I was extremely relieved it wasn't my daughter. The office lady was extremely embarrassed they had called the wrong mom. Of course, I felt bad for the other Mallory and her mom. Wowie wow wow! After school, Mallory -- my Mallory -- got called to the office, where the secretary gave her a card to give me. The woman apologized profusely and included coupons for our family to get free ice cream.
What a day. I think my heart rate is just now returning to normal. Whew!!!

That is quite a story....I'm so glad it had a happy ending! Dental emergencies are the worst. I wondered why you left so fast. You got some awesome shots. When I got home I realized all my shots were close-up and I didn't take advantage of all the great background stuff. Darn! You've got to send them your first shot for sure. Next time you are there (and don't have to rush home) take a minute to look at their file of pictures people have sent them....very cool! Next time....Lehi Main Street!
