Down and Derby

Alex (with help from Derek) spent a lot of time building his Pinewood Derby car over the last couple of weeks. The competition was last Thursday, and Alex's speedy hot rod won the 2nd place overall award.

Way to go, Alex!

:)

The pre-race weigh-in of the cars.

Alex and Derek eagerly anticipated the first race.

A close-up of the hot rod.

Ready to roll!

Placing the car carefully on the track.

Heading for the finish line.

Happily showing off his ribbon.

Good work on the Derby. My son loved Pinewood Derby. He's now and Boy Scouts and loves it even more than Cub Scouts. The funniest derby car I remember seeing was the pink eraser. If you're stuck for ideas next year, you might try that. Congrats to your son! (and his car looks great!)

Boy do these shots take me back. My son was in Scouts - did it with his father and the Pinewood Derby was very big. Alex's car looks like a sedan - long and very snazzy decorations. Congratulations to Alex (and a nice pat on the back to dad too!). :)

You know, the more I looked at these pictures last night, the more confused I got. Because my friend's family does the pine box derby here & although I've never gone to watch, I could have sworn they actually rode inside their cars. I kept looking and looking at your post but I guess maybe I've been misunderstanding all these years she's described it to me! Obviously she needs a blog...

Congrats at any rate! That does look like fun!
